This will not be the typical St. Patrick's Day-themed design post.

There will be no reference to the following: claddagh rings, shamrocks, leprechauns, potatoes, cartoon policemen, Aran sweaters, alcoholism, anything green.

I want to talk about examples of cool, modern Irish design.

 

Mourne Textiles

This loopy weave was shown in an early coat from founder Gerd Hay-Edie.

I'm particularly drawn to this textile design house because they're located in the area around the Mourne Mountains where my grandfather William was from.

I love this designer's perspective, with pieces that are weaponlike and look as though they're cast directly from a rocky crag.
